Big Donors and the Obama Transition Team - 2 hours ago
Bundlers, those individuals who pool together large numbers of campaign contributions from a network of business associates in order to funnel far more money to campaigns than they could personally give under campaign finance laws, make up more than 10 percent of President-Elect Obama’s transition team. Together these six individuals, including transition team Co-Chair Valerie Jarrett and Advisory Board members Susan Rice, Michael Froman, Julius Genachowski, Federico Peña and Donald Gips have directed over $1.4 million to the Obama campaign.

Although their presence on the transition team may very well be coincidental to their bundling activities, it is cause for pause.

Under the Bush Administration, bundlers used their capacity at raising vast sums of money on behalf of their companies or clients to influence White House decisionmaking and administration appointments. Former Enron executive Kenneth Lay and convicted felon Jack Abramoff are two of the most egregious examples of Bush administration bundlers who peddled money for influence to the detriment of the American citizen. There exists little doubt that other bundlers managed to exert similar degrees of influence. Even if they may not have so thoroughly flouted the law, it does not mean that they exerted any less damage to the citizenry and to democracy.

While Obama’s commitment to cleaning up Washington is heartening, we cannot in our exuberance over a change in administration allow the actions of his transition team to go unvetted. Fortunately there are organizations committed to ensuring that transparency exists in the transition process. Public Citizen, for example, has launched www.becoming44.org as a resource for the press and public to hold the new administration accountable for the campaign’s promises to look out for ordinary people.

President-Elect Obama campaigned on a pledge of change, his transitional website is even titled www.change.gov. Now that the campaign is over, however, our responsibility as engaged citizens does not end. It is our job to make sure the new administration follows through with its message of hope and change.

Sarah Palin - Scapegoat

In a world such as ours, we tend to hear what we want to hear and sift out what intrudes upon our preconceptions. This is human nature. However, there are those things that define the word disgust. One of those things is the way in which Governor Sarah Palin has been treated throughout the now concluded election process of 2008. Hopefully those of us that have been on the "let us destroy Sarah Palin" bandwagon will get off and own up to the fact that she was probably the most forthright and honest of all four competitors for the Presidency. Those that would think and do otherwise should be ashamed of themselves...period.

No More Excuses

It was indeed an historical night this November 4th Tuesday of 2008. Americans can thank the results and the media for several things in reference to the election also. And while some of those things may be as negative as they are advantageous, there is one specific idea that every American can view as a positive result of this election. The racial barrier has been jettisoned and specifically, nobody can use race as an excuse for social, economic, or political advantage. It is a done deal. America has spoken.

But this election was never really about race. Oh sure, the media would have us believe that race played a huge part and where voting is concerned it probably did. However, those that voted strictly upon racial issues may have been misguided and forgotten about what Corporate America might have wanted all along. Demographics would point to a large percentage of young people voting the race card also; and, this specifically points to the possibility of a generation skillfully manipulated by a bought and paid for President via Corporate America.

Bought and paid for? Absolutely. There is no argument or discussion that can deny the hitherto unprecedented spending implemented by the Obama campaign. And the money had to come from somewhere. Unfortunately a lot of people did not know where to look to cut through the shiny speeches and glossy cliches.

But in the end we should all rejoice because this election has erased race as an excuse throughout the social, economic, and political world. Thus, it might be prudent for a whole lot of people to get off their butts and finally do some work.
